Playing Cards
This project was made during our production of Nevermore, though this prop was only used once during the show. I wanted it to be an easter egg; the back of each card had a symbol representing Edgar Allen Poe or one of his many poems. The symbols, of course, are the raven, the black cat, an eye, the quill, and a book. The suit side of the cards was the worst hand statistically possible for two reasons: Poe was dealt a bad hand in life, as well as in the scene; he also had to fake a poker face and lose a game of poker. The design and color scheme match our T-shirt design for the show, and it was four times larger than an actual playing card to fit the avant-garde theme of the show. At the end of the show, I chose five actors to receive them as a keepsake.
Floral Framing
A personal project of mine, made from an old mirror left by the previous owners of our home. I decided to give it a makeover. Removing the mirror and traced a piece of paper to take its place. The frame was worn and white, a perfect canvas. I chose a purple and blue color scheme for a moody vibe. For the painting, I wanted something strange, so an ethereal girl with no pupils would weird people out. This was a shorter project for me, taking only 2 - 3 days to complete, but it was nice practice in blending colors on a non-flat surface.
Arcade
This is an ongoing project of mine. It started as a toy claw machine that my friend gave me, and I decided to transform it into something else. As a fan of games, I thought it would be fitting to turn it into an arcade machine. This project has gone through many iterations; the version you see now is the third. Believe it or not, I originally spray-painted it teal, then created a grid of characters, and finally settled on this version, which features just the title cards of games. The base and top are covered in panels showcasing some of my favorite video games; however, I recognize that only a few of these games were ever playable in arcades. Regardless, this has been both a fun and frustrating experience. I painted each panel while watching playthroughs of the games or researching their history. The letters were a true test of my patience. This project has allowed me to connect with one of my favorite hobbies. I have only five panels left to complete, but I don't plan to stop there. I want to digitally create character collages to place on the sides, and after that, I might even continue my work on an actual arcade machine.
